Go ahead, Creative Soul.
Google “365 Project.”
Mostly? You’ll find stuff about Microsoft Teams.
Which is fine.
Perfectly okay.
Especially if you’d like to do your 365 Project with a team.
But that is not what I mean when I encourage you to try out a 365 Project.
What I mean is this…
How to Do a 365 Project for Creativity or Wholeness
To embark upon a 365 Project for creativity or wholeness, you don’t need Microsoft Teams. You don’t even need a computer, unless you are posting your project on Substack or some other online platform. All you need is:
Love. Really, choose something you love. Or choose something that captures you. Focus on it for a year, every day. One year, I sat outside every day for at least 15 minutes (with a few exceptions for sickness :). To increase the love quotient, I took a cup of tea with me.
Structure. This can be loose structure. For instance, when I sat outside every day, sometimes I sat under the pine. Other times I sat by the “grandmother bush.” Every so once in a while, I simply sat on the back porch.
If you are doing a photo, art, or writing project, you can be very specific (paint that same can of Campbell’s soup every day). You can also be rather loose (paint it with acrylics, watercolor, finger paints). Or photograph only at the golden hour. Or write only about Mirrors and Reflections. Choose your theme or your focused activity and go with it.Perseverance. Sometimes you will wonder why you are here again, doing this same thing you decided to do months ago. Why bother? you might think. Ignore that question. The Why often comes later. Even much later. Trust the process and persevere—unless you are truly miserable or uninspired or you find you don’t have what you need. (Like the way I lacked a good source of easily-accessible artisan bread for my Year of Bread. That year fell apart in about two weeks and is now happily filed in my “Things Begun and Never Done” bin.)
With just these three things, you’ll have what you need to do a 365 Project (minus the paint and the pine!). I promise I’ll be on your silent team, wishing you beautiful discoveries.
As always,
L.L.
